OPOPONAX RESIN
Opoponax resin emits a warm, earthy, sensual balsamic smell, with rich honey, chocolate, and myrrh undertones.
Opoponax has long been used in the production of perfumes – King Solomon regarded it as the noblest of incense gums. It was also believed that opoponax resin had the ability to sharpen the senses, hence its use as a remedy for hysteria.
This calming, earthy fragrance has been associated with necromancy and the underworld in folklore, and it has been used to maintain a state of enlightenment, clear negative energy, and support divination.
The uses of opoponax in ritual magic include for protection against negative energy and thoughts, evil spirits, and energy vampires. It is considered to have the ability to reveal secrets and hidden knowledge of the occult in the subconscious, and to provide protection for the astral body.

When burned resins emit a lot of smoke but they require heat from either an oil burner or charcoal disk.
Burning on a charcoal disk:
-Fill your charcoal burner with sand or rocks to absorb some of the heat.
- Hold the charcoal tablet with tongs and light it following the instructions provided with your charcoal.
- Place the hot charcoal on the sand inside your burner and allow 5-15 minutes to fully come to temperature. A layer of ash should form on the tablet.
- Add the desired quantity of resin on top of the charcoal.Using an oil burner releases much more of the true aroma of the resin and creates far less smoke.
To burn in an oil burner:
-Cover the brass bowl with a piece of foil and lay the resin on top
- this makes it easier to clean the burner after use.
- Alternatively, place the resin in the burner with a small amount of light vegetable oil such as olive or sunflower.
- You can also use fine sand or salt to fill the bowl
- this way the melted resins clump together and are easier to get clean. -
- Never leave burning resins unattended and keep them out of reach of children and pets.
- Ensure the burner is placed on a stable, heat-resistant surface.
- Do not burn resins near flammable objects.
- Burn the resins only when the window is open or if you air the room carefully afterwards.
- After the burning process, extinguish the charcoal to avoid any risk of fire.
